Örebro Day 1 -The Basics

by Patricia

 PART 2  / PART 3

On the Friday in the Sports Break, me and my family travelled to Örebro, a city two hours away from Stockholm. I was excited for this trip since my dad had said so much about the opportunities we have, from water park to Toys R Us.

After two hours of driving, we arrived to Gustavsvik, a leisure time place in Örebro. The place is based on a water park, just like the place where we went in Uppsala this January.

Stugas
When picking up the keys for our house, we were told that we'll live in a "stuga". A "stuga" is a Swedish word for little house, like a cottage. It was about five minutes to get there from the reception, and on the way, we saw lots of different "stugas". There were the really small ones, all wooden, even from the inside. They were all empty now, probably because they weren't heated and it was still winter in Örebro, snow everywhere. Next to the small stuga group, we could see medium ones. The buildings were bigger, and one building had two sides; two different parts to rent. Our stuga was one of these medium ones, number 31. I was amazed by how modern it was from the inside compared to the smaller stugas. It had everything, a living room- kitchen- entrance combination, a bathroom in a separate room, and one bedroom with a bunk bed in it. The medium stuga meant to be 5 star rated, and let me tell you, I approve! We even discovered that they had wifi in the stugas, because every teenager needs that. :)

After we settled in, we ate lunch that my mum cooked in this stuga, trying out the modern oven. I read a magazine I found about Örebro later, which I found interesting. It said there is a famous museum which seemed just like the Tekniska Museet back in Stockholm. I also read about Örebro's water tower, and a "slott", which is a Swedish word for castle. I wondered if we'll visit any  of these places.

Later, my dad told us that there's a LEGO shop near by. Of course we got excited, I mean, LEGO is amazing. ;) But after listening to him, it turned out this one's the biggest LEGO shop in Sweden!

The place was really nice, and it was surprisingly full of LEGOs. We stayed there until the closing time, observing everything, because I've never seen this much LEGO in one place yet!

After getting home with some freshly bought products, we decided to visit Gustavsvik's water park as a nice ending of the day. I saw a map of the park earlier, so I was expecting lots of slides and jungle pools. When we got there, I wasn't disappointed!

Honestly, this water park was way too scary for me. Those slides… I screamed all the way. Turned out that following my sister and my dad was a really bad idea, because they only took the dangerous-looking slides. There was a fast, dark one, which was scary, but the worst of all was the "onion" slide. It started out normal, then it became one single circle, which made me spin around all the way, then eventually, I fell into the water. Never again.

Just like in the LEGO shop, we stayed here until closing time as well. This had been a perfect ending of the day, I hoped we can come back here tomorrow, but I also remembered that there are lots of other things we planned to do in Örebro! I wonder what's the plan for tomorrow...

Hi, I'm Patricia!

Hello! I'm Patricia, good friend of Euan, the Teen Traveller!
Some of you might know me from my own blog, The Formal Rulebreaker, but since it's not too well-known, I'm new for most of you.

I'm originally from Hungary, a country in middle Europe. I currently don't live there, but I always spend the summer break in that country, feeling like a tourist. :)
Hungary is a popular destination in the summer, not only for my family, but for many tourists around the world. The capital city, Budapest is known for the beautiful buildings and hotels, at least that's what tourists say. In my opinion, Budapest is nothing compared to Siófok, a large city located around Balaton, Hungary's biggest lake. I might do a post or two about it as I'm becoming The Teen Traveller's co-author, so get ready readers!

For now, I'm just going to say that I'm looking forward to post on this amazing blog! I'm very happy to become a co-author since I'm already in love with blogging!

You can read my random thoughts and adventures on my main blog, The Formal Rulebreaker!

Hi, I'm Shriya!

Hi, I'm Shriya!

Travelling is fun. I like to roam in different cities because I want to know their culture. I would want to blend in because it is interesting to know other how other people live in their own countries. My favorite travelling experience is when we went to a cruise to Tallin (in Estonia). My home country is India, and I like that India is a very social country. No one is busy on their phones, people greet you while you're if you pass on the road.

I hope that you will enjoy reading my posts and keep reading the blog in the future!

5 More Days! {More Iconic Philippine Things}

We're boarding a flight to the Philippines on the 16th, and I'm so excited!  Here's a list of more iconic things you (and I) will find in the Philippines.

  • Jollibee. Probably the most iconic food chain in the country. It sells everything from fried chicken, to burgers, to pasta, to breakfast... All sorts of stuff. I do like their Breakfast Burger Steak though (it's just basically a breakfast burger patty covered in gravy plus garlic rice).

  • Street Food / Street Food Vendors. You will see tons of people cycling with carts of nuts, or "fish-balls" around Manila, or even your own neighbourhood. Prices? Very, very cheap. Don't forget to try kwek-kwek (quail eggs dipped in batter before being deep-fried)! Fish-balls aren't really "ball" shaped though.

  • Tricycles. I think tricycles are those bicycles with three wheels... But if you refer to them here in the Philippines, they mean a method of transportation, perfect when going short distances. They're made by affixing a side-car (to accommodate passengers) with a wheel plus a motorcycle.

  • Sari-Sari Stores. Roughly translated, "sari-sari" means "variety". These kind of stores are just basically small spaces (it wouldn't be a surprise if they're even just on a house window) on a house, made for selling a variety of things to the neighbourhood. There are no big chains of these, and these are just mostly for neighbourhood convenience. The owners of these kind of stores are independent (mostly).

EATS: Chopsticks Restaurant

Nothing like a nice buffet to finish off a rather cold Saturday.

The Chopsticks Restaurant is an Asian-inspired (mainly buffet) restaurant in Stockholm. It is located around Centralstation and the city center.

We had dinner here last night and we got the buffet!

TIP: If you're going to a buffet, take a small (additional emphasis on SMALL) sample of the things you would like to try. Try all of them if you wish, but take a SMALL SAMPLE. Then if you like some stuff, get more of those. Maximize the variety, and don't just stick with 1 thing to eat. That's why it's a buffet: for you to sample everything (and to eat lots).

PLATE 1: Clockwise from top: Beef (?) noodles, deep-fried shrimp, chicken, fish fillet and a dumpling.

WORST PHOTO QUALITY AWARD goes to me.

NOM NOM NOM! Everything on this plate was great, but the noodles.... I can't explain how I don't like them though... The shrimp and the dumplings were the best! The chicken was fine, but if you're going to eat the chicken in this restaurant, don't be surprised if the whole tray is finished within two minutes... Just saying.

PLATE 2: Sushi Platter!

Slightly improved photo.
My favorite was the salmon and the crabstick sushi. I quite like the seaweed (?) wrapped one too... The cucumber inside it gives it a little kick. The rest were "eh", not quite up to par with the others.

The next plates were mainly just more of the shrimp and the dumplings and the chicken. Then I had dessert, 3 medium scoops of raspberry ice-cream from their ice-cream bar.

They also had a selection of uncooked meat and vegetables, where you can pick your favorites and let the chef cook it for you live. I didn't chose that option though, I wanted my food right away.

Price wise, I think it's quite steep. SEK 820 (US$ 126) for a buffet for four....

We're going to the Philippines for Christmas! SO EXCITED!!!

The 20 Million (Swedish) Crown Painting

My mom, my sister and I met with a nice Filipino lady the other day and took us to her nice and cozy apartment. After we took the little tour, she offered us some snacks and a strawberry drink.

She then showed us this:

Nothing much, just a painting right? That's what I thought until I heard my mom's friend say "It's worth SEK 20,000,000"

My jaw just dropped. How can this painting be worth so much? Is there something I missed? Some kind of hidden message I didn't get? Hmmmmm.....

I know it isn't exactly travelling, but isn't it mind boggling?
