EATS: Stockholm Fisk

For 2014's Mother's Day, we took mom to Stockholm Fisk, one of her favorite restaurants since our stay here in Stockholm.

As we were perusing their interesting menu, we got greeted by a complementary basket of bread and butter.

I got the white asparagus with French goat cheese and Iberico Berotta. White asparagus is a rarity in Europe, and is grown only for a short period of time. I have tried white asparagus before, and I did not enjoy it. I don't enjoy asparagus in general - white or green.

Impressively, the white asparagus in this meal tasted so much better than the first ones I've tried. They were tender and complemented the goats cheese. The addition of the ham was an excellent touch to the meal.

On the flip side, my mom and sister tried the authentic toast Skagen, which is essentially a piece of toast with fresh prawns smothered with dill and mayonnaise on top. My dad had the moules / mussels. I have tried samplings of all our appetizers, and all were very delicious.

Onto mains. I had the "grown up" version of the fish and chips (by grown up, I mean it's not from the kid's menu). Needless to say, the presentation was so cute! The fries were served in a mini version of the baskets you use for the deep-fryer. Also, the dish was served with curry remoulade and guacamole.

By itself, the fish tasted quite plain. When combined with the curry sauce, the meal was more interesting. The remoulade turned the flat and plain flavor of the fish into an Indian, citron-y, enjoyable main course. Fries are fries, therefore it was good. A bit disappointed with my main... I hope that I stuck with my gut and chose the mackerel, but that's for next time.

My parents got the platter of assorted seafoods from the seasonal menu, with fresh seafood such as crab, fresh prawns, oysters, lobster and caviar. This was also served with sliced toasted bread.

This is only one side of this humongous plate of the sea!
For the first time in my life, I tried lobster. It was quite hard work actually to take off the meat, but it was great. I also enjoyed the slices of salmon served on the platter on bread, mixed with a tad of mayonnaise, caviar and some shredded onion. Delightful!

For dessert, I just had a plain old scoop of vanilla ice cream with almonds, serving as a nice little finishing touch to the meal.

Today was filled with trying out new different wonders of the sea. Lobster, mussels, toast skagen. These new experiences and firsts will be unforgettable, and more are surely to come!

EATS: Chopsticks Restaurant

Nothing like a nice buffet to finish off a rather cold Saturday.

The Chopsticks Restaurant is an Asian-inspired (mainly buffet) restaurant in Stockholm. It is located around Centralstation and the city center.

We had dinner here last night and we got the buffet!

TIP: If you're going to a buffet, take a small (additional emphasis on SMALL) sample of the things you would like to try. Try all of them if you wish, but take a SMALL SAMPLE. Then if you like some stuff, get more of those. Maximize the variety, and don't just stick with 1 thing to eat. That's why it's a buffet: for you to sample everything (and to eat lots).

PLATE 1: Clockwise from top: Beef (?) noodles, deep-fried shrimp, chicken, fish fillet and a dumpling.

WORST PHOTO QUALITY AWARD goes to me.

NOM NOM NOM! Everything on this plate was great, but the noodles.... I can't explain how I don't like them though... The shrimp and the dumplings were the best! The chicken was fine, but if you're going to eat the chicken in this restaurant, don't be surprised if the whole tray is finished within two minutes... Just saying.

PLATE 2: Sushi Platter!

Slightly improved photo.
My favorite was the salmon and the crabstick sushi. I quite like the seaweed (?) wrapped one too... The cucumber inside it gives it a little kick. The rest were "eh", not quite up to par with the others.

The next plates were mainly just more of the shrimp and the dumplings and the chicken. Then I had dessert, 3 medium scoops of raspberry ice-cream from their ice-cream bar.

They also had a selection of uncooked meat and vegetables, where you can pick your favorites and let the chef cook it for you live. I didn't chose that option though, I wanted my food right away.

Price wise, I think it's quite steep. SEK 820 (US$ 126) for a buffet for four....

EATS: Molly Malone's Irish Pub!

This restaurant review is from the point of view of a 13 year old. Just letting you know.

As much as I hate to admit it, I am overweight. Yeah. Laugh all you want.

In all seriousness, I am overweight and my parents are trying to revise that by making me and my sister more active and eat healthy stuff. But, a proposition was made by my loving stepdad that if we reach our goal weights, we can eat in any restaurant we wish.

And that brings us here, to Molly Malone's Irish Pub. My sister reached her goal weight first, so she picked this because she wanted to try the Fish and Chips my stepdad and I ate the last time we've been here.

It took the staff about eight to ten minutes before they gave us the menu, which is a quite reasonable amount of time to settle in to the restaurant, beacuse of its welcoming atmosphere.

So my mom, my sister and I ordered the Fish and Chips (SEK 95). The fish (which was a cod) was battered and deep fried, served with a salad and fries. The fish was perfect. It was delicious and light. The salad of cucumbers, lettuce and cabbage was good, because of the fresh quality of the vegetables used. Needless to say, the fries were great and the portions of the meal were quite generous. By the way, my sister and I also had a glass of Pepsi (SEK 25)

Deep Fried Cod, Fresh and Light Salad And French Fries

My stepdad ordered the Shrimp Scampi and Chips (SEK 149) with a pint of Kilkenny (it's a beer | SEK 63) my mom also had Kilkenny, but only a half-pint (SEK 32). When they finished their beers, they ordered a pint and a half pint of Guiness (another beer) for my dad and mom, respectively (SEK 63/32 respectively).

My Dad's Shrimp Scampi & Chips

For dessert, we got the only thing in the dessert menu. The dessert was a generous amount of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, a vanilla wafer and fruit cocktail. Since ice cream was awesome, this dessert was awesome; however, I didn't really like the fruit cocktail, mainly because it was obvious that it came from a can... They should have made it "fresh fruits in ice cream".

So that was my second experience at Molly's. Great service and awesome food once again. I really hope it maintains and even exceeds this own status. Overall, 8/10.
