EATS: Swedish (?) Chocolate

Sidenote: The title has a question mark on it because I'm not 100% sure that everything here is purely Swedish.

Food wise, Sweden has lots of stuff to offer. From microwavable meatballs to the ice cream you get in Gamla Stan, one thing unique (to me) is their chocolate.

My definition of "unique" is things that I've never seen or heard before, so if this is in your country, and not exactly unique to Sweden, pardon.

First is Milch-Nuss! This is a chocolate bar with chopped hazelnuts mixed in to it. Me and my friends thought it would be a good bargain to buy, 'cause it costed SEK 5. (~90 US cents). It was very "eh", and there weren't that much hazelnuts in to it.

One of the most iconic chocolates made in Sweden would probably be Marabou. Trust me, it's everywhere. Marabou comes in a whole range of flavors, and in this blog post, we chose Marabou and chunks of Daim chocolate.

I LOVE DAIM!

This is probably one of the best things I have ever tasted. Daim's hard caramel is to die for. I could literally finish a whole separate bar of Daim in two minutes, even though it's hard to bite. The separate Marabou was good too, but I think that since the caramel didn't melt easily, it had a more obvious flavor.

{Sidenote: A separate bar of Daim and the original milk-chocolate Marabou deserve their own post!}

EATS: ICA's Strawberry Ice Cream Cones

While shopping with my family last Sunday, we stumbled across this ICA Ice Cream, which is just a brand of ice cream from the supermarket we bought.

We bought one box (8 pieces) of Strawberry & Vanilla ice cream, 250 calories per 100mL (which is great, considering each cone is 120mL), SEK 20.

Nothing fantastic. The ice cream came out just like the pictures above, with less strawberry jam. Surprisingly, the cone was covered in chocolate in the inside and the ice cream is also filled in the inside of the cone, not just on top. I love the chocolate-filled tip! It makes you want more.

Value for money is excellent. 8 cones for 20 crowns is fine, considering you can get one cone of a equally-tasting Cornetto in Hemkop for SEK 5 (there was a sale), and that's only for one ice cream.

ICA also makes biscuits, cookies and simple breads for great prices.

EATS: Doughnuts from Hemköp!

So one of my good friends from school, Linh treated me and my sister to some doughnuts from that Swedish supermarket Hemköp.

Most Swedish supermarkets often serve fresh breads and pastries.

So we originally wanted the chocolate muffins (SEK 9) but changed our minds, because we found some doughnuts on sale. The doughnuts (originally SEK 9) were priced four for SEK 25. What a bargain.

We bought three white-chocolate covered doughnuts and one normal holed doughnut glazed with chocolate and chocolate bits and sprinkles. My sister and I chose the white chocolate ones while Linh got the normal chocolate one.

A close up of my doughnut after two bites.

The doughnut was average. When I bit in to my doughnut, crumbs of white chocolate fell from the glaze. My sister thought it was amazing. No comments from Linh and her doughnut, though.

Thank you Linh for the doughnuts!
